The Five Purposes "Ministry" Part I

“God has given gifts to each of you from His great variety of spiritual gifts. Manage them well so that God’s generosity can flow through you.”
1 Peter 4:10 (NLT)

“From now on, any definition of a Successful life must include serving others.”
George H. W. Bush

UNDERSTANDING MINISTRY:

As a connection group leader understand that ministry is to the people IN the church and missions and evangelism are to people OUTSIDE the church. Every member of your group needs to DISCOVER, DEVELOP, and DEPLOY their God given assignment.

“Spiritual gifts were given for the common good of the body”
1 Corinthians 12:7 (NIV)

Each person in your group who is a follower of Jesus Christ has a God given gift and it is our responsibility as group leaders to help then cultivate a heart and a belief for service to others.

“So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples feet and to wipe them with the towel he had around him.”
John 13:4-5 (NLT)

Understand this as the one who leads in your group: You will never arrive at the state in life where you are too important to help with the menial tasks. It is a vital part of your character curriculum in life. Consider the following for your group life…

I. Model servant hood personally and give people opportunities to understand this Biblically
II. Mention opportunities to serve and give people the opportunity to apply this practically
III. Motivate people to service by your encouragement, challenge, and participation

“A spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means of helping the entire church.”
1 Corinthians 12:7 (NLT)

  1. Modeling servant hood is critical. "You can't lead people to where you aren't." (Remember that quote Eric) :-) Good word.
